Frequently asked questions.

How long have we been recycling tyres?

Waste Recovery and Energy Solutions (WRES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chip Tyre who has been recycling tyres in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia for over 20 years.

More information on Chip Tyre is available on our website - www.chiptyre.com.au

What is Pyrolysis and how does it work?

Pyrolysis involves the controlled and secure application of heat to an environment with no oxygen. Waste tyres are placed in an internal, sealed chamber before warming them to the required temperature.

This warmed environment then facilitates the chemical reactions needed to produce syn-gas (which can be recirculated back within our system as the heating fuel), pyrolysis oil and carbon black. Clean steel is also recovered for further recycling.

So, are you burning tyres?

No - Tyres are not burnt during this process.

Fire needs three things - a fuel source, heat and oxygen.

Our secure and controlled process means that tyres are placed inside an internal chamber which is sealed from the external environment. Once the chamber is sealed, our equipment then removes all of the oxygen prior to any heating. Without oxygen, there is no fire.

What about your emissions?

Our environmental footprint and impact on our environment has been at the forefront during our planning, research and development. The treatment of our exhaust gas emissions is very important to us.

Our system includes an Australian first, flue gas treatment system which means our exhaust gases exceeds all required Australian standards.
